Instructions

Main Page navigation

Upon authentication, you'll land on the app's Main Page. From here, you can explore available spaces, create your own, and adjust your profile settings.

At the bottom of the Main Page, you will find a toolbar with four options.

Shared With Me

By default, the first page you see will be the Shared with Me page, which lists all of the spaces that have been shared with you by other creators. Each space is displayed with its name, the name of its creator, and a thumbnail image.

Explore Spaces

This page contains a list of all public spaces. Public spaces are those that can be discovered by anyone and entered without needing to be invited.

My Spaces

This page contains a list of all of the spaces, both Public and Private, that you have created.

Create New Space

Here you can create a new space. This process is explored in more detail in this article.

In addition to the toolbar at the bottom of the screen, there are two icons located near the top of the screen:

Search

When you are viewing either the Shared With Me, Explore Spaces or My Spaces Pages, you can use the search option to help you find a specific space.

Mapview

When you are viewing either the Shared With Me, Explore Spaces or My Spaces Pages, you can use the Mapview to view geolocated spaces. If the app has the appropriate permissions to know your location, then it will display spaces close to you. Please bear in mind that not all spaces are geolocated. Creating a geolocated space is easy and is covered in this article

The following image shows what’s displayed once you select the Mapview button.

Icon denotes a geolocated space, as shown in the map above.

When viewing the map, the Mapview icon is replaced with an icon featuring four white squares. Select this to return to the space list view.

Entering a space

To enter a space, select it from the list.

A pop-up will appear displaying the space details.

Before you enter, you can see how many users are currently in the space via the count beside the “Enter” button.

Profile settings

The App Profile Settings Page can be accessed via the settings button (cog icon) at the top right of the My Spaces Page.

From there you can access the following settings:

  • Display name – this is the name being displayed to other users when you enter a space. You can change your display name at any time.

  • Reset password – select this option to receive a password reset link.

  • About – learn more about OKO in the ‘About’ section.

  • Banned users – manage any users who may be banned from your spaces.

  • Blocked spaces – select this option to view any spaces that you may have blocked. Learn more in this article

  • Location – manage calibration and other settings. This page offers the following options:

  • Calibrate with GPS – with this option enabled, the app will use your GPS location to position content based on the latitude and longitude associated with the space. This is important when viewing a space in AR at the physical location it has been authored for.

  • Ignore location position data but preserve rotation data – with this enabled, it will ignore the location position data and place the user at the origin of the space.

  • Calibrate with GCA – with this option enabled, it will resolve any nearby Google Cloud Anchors in AR.

  • Calibrate with Fiducial Marker – with this enabled, it will use fiducial markers as anchors in AR.

  • Camera – manage settings related to virtual camera control. This page offers the following options:

  • Control the camera by tilting your device (applies to any space you enter) – with this option enabled, the orientation of the virtual camera in the space can be controlled through movement of the physical device.

  • Control the 3D mode camera using a second thumbstick, instead of swiping on the screen – with this enabled, the user will have a second thumbstick to orient the camera.

  • Replace the second thumbstick with a swipe area – with this option enabled, the user will have a swipe area to control camera orientation instead of a second thumbstick.

  • Quality select this option to manage quality settings. These settings have a direct impact on visual fidelity and inversely on performance. They are worth reviewing if you are using a low-end device. This page offers the following options:

  • Use high-quality shadow settings – with this option enabled, shadow quality will be increased.

  • Enable AR occlusion – with this enabled, virtual objects will be occluded by real-world objects when in AR.

  • Use high-quality AR occlusion settings – this setting enables the use of higher-quality AR occlusion.

  • Prefer human over environment AR occlusion – with this option enabled, human occlusion of virtual objects will be prioritized over environment occlusion.
